HOMELESSNESSChildren under the age of 18, represent 39 percent of the homeless. 42% of these children are under five years of age. 2010 South Sarasota County Statistics 604 Children currently enrolled in South Sarasota County Schools are Identified as Being Homeless! CHECK OUT OUR CALENDAR FOR MISSIONS AND EVENTS 2009 Sarasota/Manatee County Totals YTD Meals/Food provided : 234,797 Overnight Stays in Shelter : 143,781 Total number of individuals given shelter : 3,427 Total number of children given shelter : 123 556 Students currently enrolled in the Manatee County school system are identified as being homeless! Families now account for over 40% of the homeless and is the fastest growing section of the homeless population. The average rent of apartments in complexes with more than 100 units in Sarasota County reached $989 during the second quarter of 2006. That is a 19.9 percent increase from the average rent of $825 in the second quarter of 2005.
